Stupid version of a great movie
Wow! How the heck is this movie rated in the 8's? Are there that many tasteless people out there?? This movie has no character, no heart, nothing captivating about the superhero. No lead up to him becoming superman and way way way overboard on action, to where you simply become immune to it. I'll be honest I actually fell asleep for a little bit and trust me I missed nothing! Christopher reeve is rolling in his grave right now and I'm sure gene Hackman and the other great actors of the original are disappointed as well. Superman returns was better than this and that movie was a 4 or 5 at best. Don't waste your money on this movie just because they say it's a blockbuster!
Excellent movie. See the 2-D though.
I really enjoyed this movie. I am a big fan of action and superhero movies, and this did not disappoint. First of all I thought they did a great job on casting Superman. Henry Cavill fits the role perfectly. I liked the supporting cast, except thought they could have done better with Lois Lane. The plot starts out with Superman (Kal-El) being born, and quickly jumps into him being in his 20's and saving people. They show some of his growing up, through flashbacks but I wish they would have done more of this. You don't have to see any previous Superman movies to see this one, you get the whole back story. There was a ton of good action scenes, almost too much I thought. Plot was pretty good, but also pretty predictable. I saw the 3-D version, and I am not a big fan of 3-D. While this movie did not give me a headache, like 'The Hobbit', I didn't think the 3-D added that much, and I would recommend seeing the 2-D version! Overall I gave it a 9/10. Good action, fun, entertaining movie.
The worst film ever made. Fact.
Without a doubt the worst film ever made. Ugly, stupid, loud, and monotonous, The-Film-That-Must-Not-Be-Named represents a significant dumbing-down of blockbuster filmmaking that has done irreparable damage to the film industry in general, and to society as well. Its nightmarish vision of the world and apocalyptic visuals are, in part, responsible for a climate of pessimism and malaise that has overtaken the world. It also sterilized wildlife within 300 yards of every theater it was played in.

Over the course of its bloated runtime, this war crime of a movie casually endorses the manslaughter of a school bus full of children, defies every convention of storytelling known to man with a lazily constructed and meandering plot, and finally ends with over an hour's worth of 9/11 footage. In order to sate the audience's eternal bloodlust, Hack Snyder brings down buildings at a near- constant rate, smothering the audience in a bluish-grey haze of rubble and dust. After killing half the population of the planet, Superman kisses Lois Lane amidst a vast, blank expanse of incinerated human remains.

Snyder also incorporates childish Jesus metaphors, product placement, and not-so-subtle rip-offs of every popular film made since 1999 into his magnum opus. His audience, a group of drooling neanderthals called "DC fanboys," lap it all up, as their senses have been dulled and their growth stunted by decades of reading pulpy comic books in their parents' basements. These acne-ridden neckbeards are too stupid to understand why their favorite films are critically panned, and whine constantly about "Marvel bias" as a welcome distraction from their own crushing virginity. Sad.

The-Film-That-Must-Not-Be-Named: 0/10.
Not great
I watched this because I plan on watching Batman vs Superman later on this week and thought I needed a catch up. Halfway through I found myself checking the time to see when the movie was going to finish and towards the end I was checking the time more and more frequently. There were several things I didn't like about the movie:

1. General Zod trying to take control of Krypton with like 5 people and 5 ships.

2. General Zod failing to take control of Krypton after he and his 5 people and 5 ships get surrounded by (or surrender to) ?government forces. I don't know what to make of that whole scene.

3. Clark Kent's father turning up when those kids were bullying him.

4. The dog being in the car when the tornado struck. Why were they travelling with their dog in the first place?

5. Casting of Louis Lane: personally I preferred Amy Adams in rom coms. Louis Lane played by AA is a likable character but doesn't come off as being the intelligent, strong willed news reporter that I want her to be.

6. It could just be me, but the clergyman in the church looked evil. I thought he was Zod in disguise until I saw the real Zod.

7. Why was there a random desert scene in the middle of the movie? And why didn't Superman and Louis Lane have their little heart to heart before they reached the barriers? That scene felt very awkward.

8. How and why did the fight scenes switch from Clark Kent's hometown to a very populated city. Why did Superman not try to minimise damage? Instead he let a truck hit the building he was standing in front of and jumped like a boss through the gap.

9. How did Jenny get trapped under that building and not the other two? That was the second stupidest moment in the movie.

10. Superman killing Zod in one second, which he had not done in the preceding one and half hours because of his morals. How can those morals go out the window in a second?

11. Louis Lane turning up at the museum. That must have been the stupidest moment in the whole movie.

12. The woman soldier at the end of the movie smiling because Superman was "hot". That was the third stupidest moment.

The more I think about it, there are so many inconsistencies and random scenes. Too much pointless action. Too many explosions. They were just included for the sake of it. Poor storyline after the first 40 minutes. Became boring after the first 40 minutes. I should have just read the synopsis. Hope Batman vs Superman is better.
This review may contain spoilers.

Again, I don't usually write reviews, but I feel compelled to this time considering the mixed to negative reaction this is getting from critics. First of all, all I can say is that whatever movie the "critics" were watching, must have really been a different movie. Or they had blindfolds on. Don't listen to the negative hype. This has happened with countless movies before. A week before a movies release all of these "edgy" and "original" critics will give negative reviews toward a movie. A lot of the complaints are actually things that work in this movies favor.

This movie is much more serious than the previous Superman movies. This isn't Superman Returns serious. This is, "the shizzle just got real" serious. People were complaining about how dark and serious this was. With all the events happening in this movie it would be highly inappropriate to have jokes thrown in. There was so much death and violence. This movie also has a lot of action. Many people said it was over the top. It damn well should be. This is hands down the best portrayal of Superman's capabilities in any movie we've seen so far. Henry Cavill is Superman to me now. I always liked Reeve, but damn, this guy is Superman. Amy Adams was alright as Lois Lane, and I'm sure here character will grow in future films. The rest of the cast is very good. Zod, though different from Stamp, is pretty fierce. This Zod is much more menacing.

This movie might just be the best superhero movie ever. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. It had the action of the Avengers, and in moments, the heart of the Batman movies. Don't go in expecting The Dark Knight though. This is a balls to wall action movie. We see Superman kick some serious ass in this and if this is the DC movie to kick off what will be a swarm of DC movies, then I'm a happy camper.

An epic reboot of the most popular comic book superhero...
Movie Review: "Man of Steel" While a superhero movie, Man Of Steel is also a sci-fi drama about an alien sent to Earth and trying to live among us. Unlike the 1978 Superman, it tackles the emotions of Clark Kent a.k.a. Kal-El a.k.a Superman, as we all knew him. The visual effects was awesome and it gives us an out-of-this-world look of planet Krypton and the chaos in Metropolis was way better than that of the Avengers and Iron Man 3 combined. The standouts were Russell Crowe as Jor-El and Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent. Amy Adams' Lois Lane is just not your usual damsel in distress and Michael Shanon's Zod was also good. The most surprising of all is FAORA, General Zod's disciple. Henry Cavill's Superman fits the Superman of the 21st Century but needs more sense of humor. They say it's ZACK SNYDER's best movie to date but I say it's the BEST Superman movie to date!

Man of Steel is the Dark Knight version of Superman but much less darker and full of emotions.
Most Epic Superman Movie Yet!!!
I saw this movie the day before it came out with this special Wal-Mart exclusive ticket for the movie, but just watched it a second time and it was Good the first time but AMAZING the second time. This movie follows the true story of superman when it comes too the comic book back in 1939, if your a fan of Smallville the show on the CW network but just ended in may of 2011 after 10 years on Television then you will be confused with parts of this movie because in smallville and in the 1970's superman movie, Jonathon Kent died of a heart attack when Clark was just 17 years old but in This movie he dies saving his dog and a boy from a tornado and he gets sucked right in, though Clark was right there and could have saved him, Jonathon didn't want him to reveal his secret to the world so asked him telepathically not to save him unfortunately this is not how it truly happened. again in Smallville Clark knew two friends Clhoe Sullivan and Pete Ross, in Man of Steel, Pete ross was a young bully in high school and grew up to be a manager of the local IHOP(International House of Pancakes) again, this is not how it truly was. and as for clhoe Sullivan, she never existed in the superman universe, she was a made up character for the Smallville t.v. show. In smallville, Clark meets Lois Lane while he is still in High School and grows up to work with her at the Daily Planet and later marries her. In Man of Steel, he meets her in a completely different way and she finds out that he is Superman right away, this is also very different than the 1970's movies, the 1950's TV show and Smallville TV show. although there are many plot holes, this movie still stays true to the legacy that is Superman and has Amazing Special effects and acting and directing, plus Henry Cavill does wonders playing the Hero role. Also in Man of Steel, Clark doesn't work for the Daily Planet yet nor does it show him get the job at all but Im sure later down the line he does. I love this movie and all Superman fans will relish in its Glory, true to all the story or not, the director made his own unique version of the Man of Steel and we all should marvel at this major motion picture. I love it and you all should too and that's why I Rate this a 10/10, acting 10/10, special effects 10/10 and Directing 10/10. Watch it, Cherish it and just plain pay attention, you'll all get it in the end, give it a chance and even if your not a superman fan, you'll love it cause its just an epic action movie in its own right.
Man of Steel is what a Superman movie must be!
Great film-making. Superb cast. Wonderful screenplay. Decent dialogues. Heavy action. Splendid visual spectacle.

Henry Cavill does a wonderful job. So does Russel Crowe and Kevin Costner. Even the smaller, not-so-important-to-the-plot characters are given something useful to do (rather than staring at the fights and giving 'suitable' expressions). Amy Adams is believable and cute.

The Superman that we all wanted to see brought to life through a great effort by everyone.

Man of Steel is to Superman what Batman Begins was to Batman. Need I say more?
This is NOT Superman
Before I even review this movie itself, viewers need to recognize the fact Warner Bros. spent millions on mass marketing of a new Superman movie when it doesn't even have Superman in the title and the actual name of the character is never spoken. That says a lot. While DC comics decided to "reboot" Superman, there is still a very specific mythos to Superman as a character which cannot be changed or it's no longer Superman. Essentially, director Zack Snyder with the studio's blessing decided to make him "cool" by veering off course and violating very basic principles of who Superman is morally and ethically. To change the signature costume of Superman is one thing but Snyder and company go much further. No spoilers here just plain fact that this is NOT Superman and nothing more than an attempt to slap Christopher Nolan's name to a film in order to get people to see it. While it may work in the short term, the problem is how monumentally flawed this "new" and "updated" incarnation is of what is supposed to be Superman which is why it is getting such a poor reception from most critics. The chemistry between Superman and Lois Lane is nonexistent and with a horrible script by David Goyer, the actors cannot be necessarily blamed entirely. As for Henry Cavill, I wouldn't call him a horrible actor but he does not pull off the charisma and most importantly the essential dichotomy between his alter ego as Clark Kent and as Superman. However the producers, director, and writer of this mish mash mess of a "reboot" didn't help. At least, Brandon Routh had the all-American wholesomeness similar to that of Christopher Reeve. Certain liberties are taken with how Clark Kent is presented in this movie which I won't give away. This movie is full of creative choices that make absolutely no sense and defy logic in general not to mention everything about who Clark Kent/Superman is. That's why this should really be referred to as a "reimagining" and a very poor one at that. The race of Perry White and gender of Jimmy Olsen is changed for no plausible reason other than to be "progressive" but Laurence Fishburne is a gifted actor wasted with the bland material he had to work with. Ultimately this is a knockoff of the real Superman character playing off the success of "The Dark Knight" films. The worst part is the CGI overkill which is a page ripped right out of Michael Bay's book on worthless filmmaking. It is becoming painfully clear how much like The Transformers this film is and any subsequent installments will only get worse. Hence we have Christopher Nolan's involvement to thank for this garbage. However I'm sure he is regretting his name being attached to this right now with the kind of reviews it is getting. Fanboys will surely cry when he chooses not to be involved and have his name attached to any sequels. Director Zack Snyder is definitely on his way to becoming the next Michael Bay. This "reimagining" is far from a masterpiece like Richard Donner's 1978 classic, "Superman". John Williams epic theme is sorely missed but fortunately not associated with this disaster. Even "Superman Returns" with it's flaws at least remained true to who Superman is as the character has and always will be. "Man of Steel" is a complete insult to over 70 years of rich history regarding the most iconic superhero character in the world. It's truly sad to see the character portrayed so badly and ruined by this film. I'm sure we'll be seeing "Man of Steel vs. Transformers" coming soon in 2016. No matter how much money or how it appeals to today's junk minded kids it will never be fondly remembered the way Superman always was and should be.
