Stay away is toxic for human being existence
I must say I liked(not much) Mcarthy's role on Gilmore girls. I can assume she is a mediocre actress, but I guess everything is lost in the movie industry when actress such Sarandon and Bathes enrolled in this kind of projects.

I know the people needs to eat and so but seriously there are a bunch of movies counting from 10 years ago, that budget should be invested to eradicate the famine in the world instead of this crap.

No plot, not even empathy with the script, bad direction on actors, I just could stand watching half an hour.

Stay away from this movie is just like that. Rip the movie industry.
Grow up, everyone..
Tammy.. is how my opposite person would be like.

She is careless, reckless, picks on people, is quite offensive, but... as the events unfold, she is also sensitive, deeply loyal to her family, and.. goofy. It was quite exhausting for me to watch her train of thoughts and actions, but in the end it was all worth it because the movie had a beautiful positive ending.

Susan Sarandon - not so old to play a granny, not so convincing, not so believable. I haven't enjoyed seeing Kathy Bathes either, for that matter, and the troubles of having an alcoholic in the family seem redundant and melodramatic.
Had so much potential
It's films like these that make me ask 'Why do directors/producers/writers try and fill comedies with sentimental claptrap?'If they want to make a comedy they should make something funny. If they want to make a tear-jerking drama about a granddaughter struggling with her lifelong string of failures and her grandmother's alcoholism then they should release all the stops and make something truly tragic.

Tammy tries to do both and therefore fails twice.

Melissa McCarthy is a hilarious actor and there are moments of brilliance in this film however they are separated by long periods of sentimentality for which i did not sign up.

I hope her next film is a bigger success.
Bringing It Home Tammy
I've read the hate views on here and all I can say is I am glad I don't watch movies through these people's eyes. Every movie has some continuity issues and that is now a normal part of keeping up with some many tasks needed to bring entertainment to the screen. Tammy is no exception. What I like most about this movie is that Tammy is the hard working girl next door. If you don't believe me, go next door and you will see. For some people, a string of misfortune is not a cause to quit but a reason for a road trip.

I personally believe this was not a comedy but a drama with people having fun and being funny. We all know that person in out life who makes us laugh most of the time without meaning to and for that Melissa was really great. "Identify Theft" which was my first view of her work and I liked it very much.

When I go to the movie I go with the intent and mindset to be entertained. I don't go as a critic I go as a fan and a willing participant to allow a few artist to live out characters situations just for my viewing pleasure. To go as a critic means to allow myself to miss the artistry and the opportunity to divest from my own reality and problems just so I can find reason to not like a talent. Bad artist speak for themselves without the critic's eye. Good artists are sincere at working to be great artist such as Melissa and I don't blame them for that. Even Denzel has done a few "less entertaining films as well as any other artist who make more than 50 Mill a picture.

Melissa, you did a great job with Tammy and I look forward to you next work.
More of the Same
Tammy excels in giving us the same: a bad, bad woman surrounded by characters that actually see something in her. What they see is what most of wouldn't: anything resembling a person we'd wanna be around.

I miss the other road trip movie starring Susan Sarandon: Thelma & Louise. In a lot of ways, this movie ripped off that masterpiece of filmmaking, but without the humor and depth. Sure, there were a few funny moments here, heck, even a couple of touching ones, but it was so hard to get in tune with those since the title character was such a horrible human being.

This movie reminded me a lot of Identity Thief where we has an enormously, uh, bad person, Melissa McCarthy, who somewhat, but barely, redeems herself in the last second of the movie. Both movies had me favor the second half while hating on the first half.

Basically, complainer Tammy loses her job and decides on a road trip with the woman she loves/hates, her grandma, in order to, I dunno, do really nothing with her grandma's money. Watch as she shows her redneck, uneducated self while falling for an average joe (Mark Duplass, whom, I've always had a thing for) who's way out of her league and then care when big-feet might be in need of real care.

Oh, and it's about getting to Niagara Falls, which I've been to, and was born just a half hour away. Since I have that and my love for Sarandon in common, I should love this movie.

But, I don't. though I didn't hate it and again, I liked the second half way more than the first. Unfortunately it was not enough to save it from Tammy, such a horrible and stupid person. I'm guessing Melissa was like: Well, people want the same, why not keep shitting these out?

The box office disagreed, and you should, too.

* * *

Final thoughts: While more harmless than her other features, Tammy is just the same: bad people getting away with bad actions. If you like that, more power to you. I'm just happy it wasn't a 2-hour comedy like most overlong comedies are these days.
Such a Letdown
A great cast could not overcome a dull script. Random, ill developed characters popping in and out of a storyline that was all over the place. If we laughed more than a couple of times I'd be surprised. I guess you could call it a drama-dy but it fails at either. A silent theater during a Melissa McCarthy comedy? Say it ain't so! Oh wait...we did laugh .... At my husband groaning about how awful it was. Sad because I was looking forward to this one. I give it 2 rather than 1 just because it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, but I would advise waiting for an out of theater option if you feel you must see this because you love Melissa. It's pretty disappointing.
The Fried Green Tomatoes of my generation
I'm almost 30 and grew up watching Cathy Bates, I loved her my mom loved her. This movie brought back memories from my childhood like none other! It's like the perfect cross between Fried Green Tomatoes and Dumb and Dumber. The comedy is slapstick and raunchy, but the message is good. It's a movie about learning who you are and growing into who you can be. I shed happy tears at the ending which is rare. I saw it twice, I took my mom and my aunts to see it. I can't wait for the DVD, I plan on making all my girl friends watch it. Yeah, yeah it's not a very intelligent movie.. but it's a movie that makes you feel better about yourself. It was well written and well executed, you can tell the people working on it had fun with it and really made it something special. The bad reviews shock me, they really do. I'm hard on movies, it's rare I find one I REALLY like this is getting added to the top 15 list for sure.. it might not be for everyone but if you like things like ace ventura, dumb and dumber or divine secrets of the yaya sisterhood this will be up your alley. I hope they keep up the great work!
97 minutes I'll never get back
When I saw the trailer for Tammy and that it starred the likes of Melissa Mccarthy, Susan Sarandon and Kathy Bates, I had high hopes and couldn't wait to see it. Maybe my expectations were too high as I was planning an evening of laugh out loud, eyes streaming comedy. The reality however was, if anything, one slight smirk (and I can't even remember what brought on that reaction). The all star cast is great and they did the best with what they had, the problem is that what they had wasn't very good.

I am so disappointed, I wanted this film to be good but it is 97 minutes out of my life that I'll never get back and I cannot recommend this film.

Having just seen a trailer for Melissa Mccarthy's next film, I can only hope that one has a better script.
Huge disappointment
I have liked Melissa McCarthy's work on SNL and in movies like Bridesmaids and This is 40, and I hoped this film would showcase that hilarious, wild side of the characters she plays. But there are absolutely no redeeming qualities in this mess. The most interesting aspect of it is to consider how the hell they were able to get this impressive cast to agree to participate in this dumpster fire of a film. My theory: people thought this would be Melissa McCarthy's "Tommy Boy." It isn't. Susan Sarandon was horribly miscast as the irreverent grandma. Another fun game to play is to try to articulate the plot of this movie. The main character and her drunk grandmother stumble from one boring, unfunny interaction to the next. The film is completely unable to get us to care about Tammy. She is similar to such a long list of down-and-out movie characters, yet it's hard to care whether she finds redemption, love, happiness... George Lucas writes better love scenes than you'll see in this movie. Overall I'd say that literally any activity is a better investment of time than watching this movie.
It could have been funny...
The trailer didn't sell me on this one but I won't lie and say I wasn't secretly hoping for a surprise comedy wonder here. I didn't get it.

While "Tammy" has some amusing moments and there is a sweet development in the film between Tammy and Mark Duplass' character, the film suffers from a sloppy story that feels very disconnected and really needed to be feathered out more, the jokes aren't that funny, and Tammy is a very unlikable character (no amount of McCarthy's charm and comedic talent could make this character work). None of this is really surprising since this is the first film written by the husband and wife team of Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone. It's all about growing pains and getting better with experience.

"Tammy" isn't terrible, it just wasn't funny. It feels like its wandering around with no real direction and that applies to both the comedy it holds and the story it tells. I wanted more from this film because I really like Melissa McCarthy and find her really funny but, sadly, I just didn't get it.
